Book review ‘Surrounded by Idiots: The Four Types of Human Behaviour’

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4 of 5 stars)

This book (full name: ‘Surrounded by Idiots: The Four Types of Human Behaviour (or, How to Understand Those Who Cannot Be Understood)') was a present from a former colleague as my farewell and I really enjoyed reading it. The book is an introduction into a human behavioral theory that basically divides human behavior into 4 categories.

The first half of the book describes the characteristics of these 4 behavioral categories in an entertaining way and the other half goes into more detail on how to deal with people that fall into that category.

It is quite funny to read the book, especially if you know close persons that are a prime example for certain categories. I really liked the easy of writing. The author targets every category in an (brutally) honest way, which is probably the main reason why the book is to funny and entertaining. You automatically start categorizing other people and yourself. Even though I am not fully convinced by the theory it was nice to take the time and think about the behaviour of others and myself.

One thing that annoyed me was the self promotion of the authors consulting in the book. I don´t like to have advertisement in books - they are already everywhere around us. From my point of view this advertisement should have been in an extra chapter and not in the main content of the book.

But overall it was kind of nice to read something IT unrelated :)
